Donna Greaves

“Tell me something nice”, my granny used to say. This meant tell her a story, I don’t think it mattered whether it was a nice story or not. Like her, I have always been captured by stories and the intimacy of storytelling.

My interest in language lead me to study Human Communication at university. I decided to return to my love of books after six years working as a speech therapist and was lucky enough to be offered an internship at JULA where I have been working since 2017.

​

I am still happily absorbing stories and with no strong allegiances to a specific genre. Growing up around great storytellers draws me to authors that can capture the rich texture of oral storytelling such as Arundathi Roy and novels that interweave culture, history and language like The Fishermen by Chigozie Obioma and Do Not Say We Have Nothing by Madeleine Thien.
