Sylvia was born in Sydney, grew up in the Blue Mountains, got expelled from High School and studied screenwriting at the Australian Film, TV and Radio School. Since then she’s written for film and television, won awards for educational videos, and had a hand in the production of more television commercials than seems frankly justifiable; but on the whole, she’d rather write books.

Her favourite reading tends towards character-driven examinations of themes that are so big or so small, so specific or so universal, that we might entirely miss seeing them in real life. Her favourite writers have a special shelf in her study, and their titles are on her list of Books To Be Buried With.
